Q-How light do I need to lift the hair?
To achieve the most accurate shades, hair must be pre-lightened to a level 9 or 10 (pale blonde). Any remaining yellow in the hair will contribute that tone to your end result.
Q- Can I mix and match the shades?
With any VIVIDS/ PASTELS shades, what you see is what you get. You can add VIVIDS Clear to the VIVIDS or PASTELS shades until you reach your desired color. An easy way to get a better look at what’s in your bowl is to apply the color to a white piece of paper.
Q- Can I apply to wet hair?
VIVIDS and PASTELS should always be applied to shampooed and dried hair.
Q- What is the processing time?
The processing time is 20 minutes. No heat is necessary or required.
Q- How do I make the colors lighter?
Easily lighten any color combo by adding VIVIDS Clear until you reach your desired color.
Q- Do ChromaSilk PASTELS wash out quickly?
The length of time they last will vary due to different hair types, porosity, level of damage, and the percentage of the total formula made up of VIVIDS Clear. We recommend rinsing with cool water whenever shampooing the hair to close the cuticle and extend the life of the color.
Q- How can I keep the colors from fading?
Proper home maintenance with any of PRAVANA’s Sulfate-Free Shampoos will ensure longer-lasting hair color. Always rinse with cool water to close the cuticle and extend the life of the color.
Q- What if my client changes his/her mind?
It is important to know these colors cannot be bleached completely from the hair. To attempt to do so will surely damage the hair and in most cases drive the color stain deeper into the hair. You can color over, tone, or grow the color out.
Your best plan of action is to lighten the color using PRAVANA’S Pure Light Power Lightener mixed with water. Apply and let it sit for only 5 minutes. This will not remove the VIVIDS or PASTELS, but will lighten the color to a point where you can deposit over the color.
Q- Will the colors bleed into the surrounding hair?
Yes. It is very important to strategically place the colors in areas where they cannot run into other colors.
Quick Tip: Use barrier cream on any blonde pieces that you do not wish to color. This helps reduce the risk of blondes or lighter colors absorbing unwanted colors.

Fun Color Patterns to Maximize your ChromaSilk VIVIDS and ChromaSilk PASTELS Service
TEXTURED HAIR PATTERN
Vertical panels throughout the hair allows for a ribbon-like effect. You can add vertical panels wherever the client wants to see the color. This is great for those clients who wear their hair curly, whether it’s a natural curl or a curl produced from a traditional curling iron. This pattern makes color stand out, rather than getting swallowed up by the hair surrounding it. You can change it up by giving your panels an ombre effect by going light to dark or dark to light.
CRESCENT
Here is a great pattern idea. 2 crescent shapes just 2 inches below where the client parts their hair. This allows for maximizing your color exposure in a contained space. My favorite pairing with this pattern are clients with darker levels (3-5).

SERPANTINE
For clients with long hair that like a more Peek-a-Boo effect throughout the hair, a Serpentine pattern that flows from behind one ear, around the hairline (but not directly on the hairline) through the fringe and ends on the opposite side behind the other ear. This allows you to have a “Mohawk” like section above (with any Chromasilk Color), with panels of any VIVIDS color (on your Serpentine pattern) and your Chromasilk color on the hairline. Prep time is about 5- 10 minutes. The thicker your panels, the more your color breaks through the veil from above.
